In the second year after the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a young couple from Coruscant emigrated to Dellalt in the Tion Hedgemony. Though life difficult there at first, the young couple were eventually able to flourish on the humid, watery world. By the time a year had passed, they had established the core of a prosperous agri-community on the southernmost of the planet's three continents.

And then, in the seventh year of the Galactic Empire, a daughter was born to them.

Named Raine, the child quickly grew into a rather precocious specimen of humanity and, from an early age, always seemed to be involved in trouble of some sort or another. As the years passed, a relentless, unbroken cycle of humid springs and worse summers, damp autumns and waterlogged winters, Raine quickly grew bored with the life her parents had fought so hard for. She longed for excitement, for the hustle and bustle of metropoleis and ecumenopoleis, for a chance to really live. In short, Raine longed for the life her parents had chosen to leave behind.

Denied this, the girl grew ever wilder as she grew into her late teens. Often, she would vanish for days, only to return to the agri-settlement as she ran out of food or credits. Her parents, gentle souls with little experience in dealing with troublesome children, had little idea of how to deal with such actions and, eventually, they had little real choice but to appeal to others in the community for ideas. One neighbour - an older gentle living just a kilometer away - suggested that perhaps companionship was all that was required to calm Raine's fiery nature. Her parents, though doubtful, were quick to decide they had no real choice but to try, and arranged for their daughter to be introduced to the gentles only son.

Though they could hardly have been aware of it, in doing so they saved their beloved daughter from a terrible fate.

On the day that a reluctant Raine was first introduced to the man supposed to calm her temperment, the couple returned to their agrifarm full of hope for the future. But hope is a fool's companion, and the future was one that neither of the couple would live to see; raiders, drawn by the lure of easy pickings, awaited them at the facility, and the night was split by the screams of both as the foul raiders took their pleasures over the course of the night. On the next morning, when Raine returned to her home, for what was to be the last time, she arrived in time to watch the raiders departing, and to find the mangled corpses of her parents left for the carrion birds. She didn't cry - she couldn't; the tears just wouldn't come - the sole survivor of the family did what tradition required, perhaps for the first time in her life, and buried her parents' bodies before leaving.

And, as she walked away, she left everything behind; her past, her dreams, and her name. From that point on, she'd be Raine Strife, for Strife was all she ever knew.
